Welcome to the Attleborough Heritage Group [AHG] website
We are a community organisation which commenced in 2006 and has operated from a dedicated Heritage Centre at Soma House on Station Road from 2009. Key elements in the development of the Heritage Group have included the Industrial & Commercial history of the town and the recording of the graves and personal memorials as a resource for anyone investigating their family history.
We regularly hold illustrated talks for local clubs & groups as well as our Spring & Autumn presentations. The next presentation is in April 2016 at the Connaught Hall - visit the events page for details and to see the previous topics.
The first volume of the local history booklets in eight separate titles within "A Look at the History of Attleborough's Streets" are now available at just £2.00 each. Volume two is also now being prepared and published and the first title went on sale in October. The demand has again been excellent and, together with the publication looking at the town in 1914 - "it'll all be over by Christmas" and the story of the friendly invasion in 1943 entitled " Over-Sexed, Over-Fed and over Attleborough", we have sold more than 650 copies. Further Street guides and summaries of our illustrated talks are also in production - go to News Page for details on how to order.
For Family history researchers we are pleased to announce the completion of the transfer of all the St. Mary's and the Town Cemetery burial records into a digital seachable format. For specific enquiries - just email details of the Attleborough death or burial you would wish to trace to email@example.com.
For greater detail of our activities and projects, please go to the specific web pages. We now have approximately 160 members and our collection of archive documents, photographs and artefact for the town is bursting with wonderful material that might otherwise have been lost.
We welcome new members and visitors to the Heritage Centre at Soma House each Thursday from 09.30 to 15.30. Or you can arrange a specific visit to suit you and when you might be in Attleborough Please get in touch on 01953 455877
